Hammy Family

With the rise of hamsters being added to households as an easy, kid-friendly, starter pet, the quality of life for the hamsters is often neglected. Hammy Family is an educational campaign targeted toward children (ages 6-12) and their parents. Its goal is to foster a welcoming, safe space for small pet owners to educate themselves and invest in hamsters’ quality care. Hammy Family grounds itself in four pillars: compassion, approachability, accountability, and education.
Care Guide
The care guide will be available as a pamphlet in the hamster section of pet stores. This pamphlet organizes key information and helpful resources for proper hamster care. It is designed to be informative, yet not overwhelming. On the back, there is a section for children to paste a picture of their new hamster, encouraging them to hold onto the pamphlet. This panel also has game-like statistics to promote fun in hamster care. At the bottom, it links to the mobile app.
Physical stickers include messaging and cute imagery related to the campaign. These can be pasted on water bottles, phones, laptops, journals, etc.
Calendar
This calendar encourages parents and kids to sit down together every month and plan out time to care for their hamster. The calendar comes with
a section for goals, notes, and a pack of stickers to mark important milestones and reminders. At the end of each month, you can flip over the
monthly sheet and complete the craft on the back of the page. Crafts include origami hamster hat, DIY boredom breakers, hamster recipes, and
hourly zine comics.
Mobile Game
Finally, this mobile game helps you keep track of and remember to do your hamster tasks on time. You can play with your virtual hamster when your real one is burrowed away or sleeping. You can also interact with the hamster community by visiting other hamsters, asking questions, or making friends.
Book
This book compiles the entire campaign in an approachable and game-like format. The book takes you through the stages of becoming a hamster owner in parallel to the structure of this campaign. Both work side-by-side and before you know it, you’re at home raising a irresistibly cute hammy!
