SIGGRAPH 2024 Computer Animation Festival

Software used: Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Media Encoder, Aseprite, Procreate

For the 2024 SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival (also known as the Electronic Theater), I collaborated with a team of seven to design and animate graphics for the show. My role involved brainstorming and concepting pre-show game ideas, designing and animating interstitials, re-creating the conference’s mascot, Pixel, in an 8-bit style, and crafting various animations to be used throughout the show. The video above is one of 40+ interstitials that were designed for the festival.

Intro Animation Style Frames

The theme for this year’s show was castells (human towers built traditionally at festivals in Spain). Coming offf of our 50th year anniversary for the SIGGRAPH conference, we also wanted to nod at the retrospective feeling. I leaned into the 8-bit, nostalgic, video-game style and transposed our mascot into the same universe. Below are some initial style frames for the introductory animation.

8-Bit Animations

I designed and animated various 8-bit assets to be used in the intro, interstitials, and outro animations of the Electronic Theater. This 8-bit look was achieved using Aseprite.
